Overall, 1 in 3 US adults report chronic loneliness, a condition so detrimental that it rivals smoking and obesity with respect to its negative effect on health and well-being. From anxiety and depression to life-threatening conditions like cardiovascular disease, stroke, and Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, loneliness is more than an emotion, it’s a serious threat to both the brain and body. Legislative
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in concert with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a third extension of telemedicine flexibilities for the prescribing of controlled medications through Dec. 31, 2025. Full Story
State Medicaid programs will continue to make behavioral health a strategic priority in 2025, reported Behavioral Health Business. A new survey report released by the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) found that half the state leaders of the joint federal-state health plan want to expand the continuum of behavioral health services in their states, come up with new reimbursement models, or better integrate behavioral and physical health services, for example. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is investing $5 million to help integrate mental health care into primary care. This funding will support the Collaborative Care Model, where primary care doctors, behavioral health case managers, and psychiatric consultants work together to meet patients' mental health needs, reported Hoodline.com. Policy
The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, New York’s largest grantmaking organization focused on improving the health and well-being of vulnerable communities, is premiering its new Nursing Initiative. Selected hospitals can receive a grant of up to $5 million to pursue the Magnet Recognition Program® or the Pathway to Excellence® program from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, as well as implement or expand virtual nursing and nurse residency programs. The Nursing Initiative will support hospitals’ abilities to prevent nurse burnout, improve work culture and benefit patient care. Full Story
