Amweld International Enhances Management Team

Since the beginning of the year, Amweld International, LLC has been implementing strategic initiatives that enhance quality, operations, distribution and customer service to improve overall delivery performance to our door and hardware distributors.

Scott Willson has been appointed CEO, Darren Ward has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Operations, Chuck Gerber has been promoted to Vice President of Sales and Marketing, and Mike Kolovich has been promoted to Vice President of Engineering.

Marcus Mohwinkel to Head Goff’s Sales Force

Goff’s Enterprises announces the appointment of Marcus Mohwinkel to the position of Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

Marcus has 12 years experience with material handling and door sales.  In joining Goff’s Enterprises Marcus brings his skills in developing their current distributors, as well as growing their distributor base.  Besides Goff’s versatile curtain wall and screen products, Marcus will focus on expanding the market for the company’s rugged and economical vinyl and mesh doors.

The American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) and the Window and Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA) have jointly released the updated 2008/2009 U.S. Industry Statistical Review and Forecast. This report delivers accurate and timely information on window, door, skylight and curtain wall market trends, dynamics, and product relationships for both residential and commercial construction. The report includes historic data for 2003 through 2008, and forecast data for 2009 through 2012. Forecasts are based on projections of construction activity as of March 2009. Full Story

Additionally, AAMA 851-09, a guide for sealants usage in fenestration systems, has been released by the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA). The 17-page document is titled Fenestration Sealants Guide for Windows, Window Walls and Curtain Walls, is intended to serve as a guide in the selection process, usage and application of sealants used in residential and commercial fenestration systems. The new Classic RFID system will allow hotels and resorts across the globe to easily and cost-effectively upgrade their current locks to employ contactless technology as well as Near Field Communication (NFC) cell phone compatibility. The convergence of physical access control cards with applications such as PC and IT network access has prompted a new collaboration for HID Global. In conjunction with Dell, the secure identity solutions provider has created the director of strategic accounts, HID Connect position to be filled by Kami Schiller. Masonite International Corporation has successfully completed its financial restructuring and emerged from protection under both Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) in Canada. Full Story

CDW, through its CDW Government subsidiary, has launched a small physical security practice that is designing and building security systems, focusing initially in the education and government verticals, reported Security Systems News. Full Story

Philips Products, a maker of doors and windows, will close its Stayton, OR plant, putting 125 people out of work, reported StatesmanJournal.com. The move is part of Philips Products' plan to close plants nationwide, which will add as many as 625 workers in six states to the ranks of the unemployed. Full Story

Twenty-five workers formerly employed by Therma Tru's Fredericksburg, VA, facility prior to the company's closing last fall are now back to work. Toronto-based Tru Tech Door Systems re-hired the employees upon its acquisition of the Therma Tru plant and its equipment, reported the USglass News Network. Full Story

Jeld-Wen announced June 5 that it will close its Oshkosh door manufacturing plant on Aug. 7, putting 79 people out of work, reported the Northwestern.com. The company issued a statement that said the decision was made as a result of the economic downturn and “long-standing price pressure from lower-cost, imported doors.” Full Story

Griffon Corp. announced that its garage door manufacturer business will consolidate its facilities. Griffon, Long Island's ninth-largest company in terms of sales, owns Clopay Building Products Co., which makes garage doors. Operations from Clopay's Baldwin, WI and Russia, OH, facilities will be relocated to another plant in Troy, OH, by early 2011, saving the company an estimated $10 million a year. Clopay also has another plant in Auburn, WA. Full Story

Designer Jess Han has conceived a type of door handle called the “NUMLOCK HANDLE” which features a numbered dial-lock that re-shuffles and locks itself after every successful entry, reported InventorSpot.com. Full Story
